The Yankees will return from the All-Star break a day later than expected to begin playing a spring training lineup against the AL East-leading Boston Red Sox.
Outfielder Trey Amburgey, called up to the majors for the first time on Thursday, will be in the Yankees’ lineup playing right field with Aaron Judge on the COVID injured list.
Also, the Yankees’ first baseman will be Chris Gittens, who also was recalled from Triple-A due to Luke Voit returning to the IL due to a left bone bruise.
Also, the Yankees recalled outfielder Greg Allen, infielder/outfielder Hoy Park and catcher Rob Brantley from Triple-A with Judge, third baseman Gio Urshela and catcher Kyle Higashioka going on the COVID IL.
Thursday’s game was postponed due to five Yankees testing positive for COVID.
